Starboard Kitchen Cutting Board Maple and Cherry Stripe - Handmade in Maine
These beautiful cutting surfaces are Intended to be part of the kitchen, used every day for meal preparation, not intended to be put away.
20 years ago, I made a couple dozen cutting boards for my family, as Christmas presents. Years later, most of them are still on the countertops of my family and friends that I gave them to. They all told me they still use them every day. I often heard the suggestion that I make more of them and sell them. In my own kitchen, the one I made for our home kitchen has been a daily reminder of these suggestions.
So, Starboard Kitchen Products was born. We use select hardwood, Cherry and Maple, milled and glued using Titebond III waterproof glue, which is food-safe, and expensive, but it is stronger and has proven to be rugged and water-resistant, even in harsh outdoor conditions here in Maine.
The counter-top cutting boards are milled and sanded smooth, the natural small imperfections that come with wood products are sealed with food safe shellac, to prevent moisture from entering, and finished with food grade mineral oil. We searched for the best silicone rubber feet and stainless steel screws, which cost a bit more, but are nice and grippy and long-lasting.
